There was once a magus who like many of his colleagues wanted to reach the Root. His approach was to turn his research towards Mystic Eyes and he took in orphaned children who showed potential to exhibit a variety of Eye abilities. His experiments were eventually halted by the Mage's Association and the survivors were given a new lease on life. Ai Thao Kha was one of those survivors.

Unlike her sister, Lien Kha, who prefers to have little to do with magi as much as possible, Ai Thao dedicates herself to being an apprentice in order to improve upon her Mystic Eyes of Distortion. With the aid of magecraft, her control of Distortion is excellent and its power increased; the bending of objects can either be sped up or slowed down as long as it's within her direct line of sight. The average Distortion user would have to spend much more time in order to bend something completely.

Ai Thao does not use her Eyes casually aside from practice, completely acknowledging that there is not much use for them aside from destruction. But she trains herself in order to make sure her Eyes do not cause problems and if possible, she wishes to help people to make sure they do not suffer the wrongs she did. In a sense, this wish makes her more heroic than Lien, but she isn't quite an idealist and like Lien, she doesn't think highly of herself.

"Shy," is the word that comes into mind when it comes to Ai Thao. She is initially soft spoken and polite and it seems she would be the type to be agreeable and compliant. The latter assumption is actually wrong; in stark contrast with her genteel behavior, Ai Thao is strongly compassionate and would be rather quick to come to another person's defense. As such, she is not a mage who is calm and collected, but rather, wears her heart on her sleeve. She is not quite as audacious like a certain Mystic Eyes user, but she is no less honest or bold when it comes to matters that are important to her.
